In what ways does your media product use, develop or challenge forms and conventions of the real media products?
in our preliminary task we were able to use a number of different shots to create the different effects needed and also to make certain things obvious and interesting to the audience.....

here we used over the shoulder shots using the 180 degree rule to make sure the viewer doesn't get confused and also knows thats going on.

here we used a shot reverse shot. we felt it was needed to show where Rosie was going however one long shot of her walking away would be boring to the audience.
After showing Rosie walk away ringing jack we swapped scenes to jack and a close up of his phone going off. this makes the audience wonder what he is doing at this time and it makes it quite tense.
we then tilted the camera upwards whilst jack was picking the phone up and its revealed that he is cheating on him, this makes it shocking to the audience and also have sympathy for Rosie.
The point of view shot shows exactly where she is. she is just about to walk into the room where they are. this also builds up tension of them sat their.
we used a close up shot of becky to show her facial expressions and her innocence to the situation. she cares about the girl and wants her to know the truth.
we zoomed out using sort of an establishing shot of the characters showing where they are situated also preparing the audience to watch out that something interesting is coming.a close up was used on jack after he was slapped to show how he doesn't care about what just happened because he's smiling. it then fades out whist he's smiling leaving the viewers to think about how he maybe should be feeling.
How does your media product represent particular social groups?
The social group represented in our film is sixth formers and we have chosen them to be portrayed both positively and negatively.
positively because they are portrayed as being quite mature and tidy in some respects but also cool at the same time. we achieved this by dressing the characters in cool up to date clothing but also quite smart at the same time, e.g a shirt with a cardigan over the top, a jack wills hoody and UGG boots. The dialogue that was used was middle class. They all had up to date phones and they spoke properly using correct grammar and full sentences, portraying them as quite intelligent. when jack is on the phone to Rosie becky just wants to do the right thing and tell the truth so this portrays teenagers as sometimes being caring and not wanting any trouble.
Negatively because they are also represented as quite childish. although they are mature they still have tendencies to slip back into childish habits. for example when jack is confronted by Rosie he just lies right to her face and when Rosie hears this she just slaps him. she doesn't think about discussing the matter or anything she just resulted to violence. also the way that jack smiles after he has been slapped. he doesn't seem to care about whats happened. so this portrays them as quite careless as well. the camera shots to present this is when there is a close up of jacks face when he is lying to show the emotions on his face, he doesn't care at all. he just acts like everything is all normal and he isn't doing anything wrong.
in the different genders females are represented as more positively than boys. The friend at the beginning is caring toward Rosie and the girl that jack is cheating on wants Rosie to know the truth about the whole thing. She doesnt feel happy about lying. Although Rosie does use violence, the audience however may still be able to understand why she did it, she was upset.
Jack on the other hand represents boys in a negative way. He lies a lot and doesn't care about other people feelings. he tells the girl he's cheating on to "shhh" whilst he's on the phone and he smiles when he is slapped at the end. showing he doesn't really actually care.
What kind of media institution might distribute your media product and why?
The target audience of this video is essential to who will might distribute this video. if it was made properly with time and editing not being so much of an issue they sorts of programmes that would be interested would be ones that specialise in showing these sorts of programmes. which are channels such as E4 and channel 4.
another way this could be used is for other students who are taking the same course and need maybe some inspiration on what they should make a video of, giving them examples of the different shots we've used and the way that we portrayed that certain age group.
Who would be the audience for your media product?
our video would appeal to both male and female because they are both represented as being cool in the film.
sixth formers or students near that age group of 16-18 because they can relate to these sorts of programmes and also because it is similar to other programmes they watch such as Hollyoaks and the inbetweeners which also have settings of schools in it. These students will be interested in relationships and be social with other pupils in their school and wanting to know the latest gossip and therefore will watch the sequels of this to find out what happens.
How did you attract/address your audience
We used the holly oaks theme tune to relate it to holly oaks a common programme watched. by doing this how they view hollyoaks will automatically reflect on how they view our video, making it good.
we used pupils in our school including us to make sure that the issues that are put across are created and dealt with in the same way our target audience would do so. This way the audience can relate past experiences with the programme and maybe get advise for the future and learnt from it e.g. if a problem arises like you want to cheat on your girlfriend you will know not to lie because you will get found out one way or another.
the characters used are attractive and cool. the audience can maybe get some ideas on how they could dress to look that good.
We used a close up on Rosie's hand when she is pushing the door open. she has green nail varnish on. this is quite unusual but all gives the audience the impression that you don't need to follow everyone to be cool. you can be different and still be accepted. The audience can look up to learn form these certain characters.
we used the setting of a school to make it very familiar to the audience and also make it easier to relate the video to their school.
what have you learnt about technologies from the processes of constructing this product.
i learnt about a majority or technologies whilst making my preliminary task. i was first able to use the video camera properly by being able to create different shots in different ways. e.g using a tri-pod for a pan and a hand held technique for a point of view shot. this enables us to create different shots in their most effective way.
when editing the film i became familiar with imovie and was able to help edit the video effectively making the change in the shots smooth and being able to fade it out at the end. i was also able to add music onto the clip making the theme tune fade in and out at the right times. all of this resulted in out film being reasonable successful.
